Housework Thank You and I'm Sorry

I was talking to a friend lastnight about how you can't ever get it all done. There will not be a day in the near future where all my laundry is done & put away, house clean, dinner cooked, all of us looking presentable, etc. It is just not gonna happen. The fact that doesn't happen often REALLY stresses me out... I try not to let it bother me. I get there are seasons to life and I am not in the season of a clean house all the time - I fondly remember those days when I was but still it bothers me.
So I asked her how she managed to stay mellow and not let it get her down and she said this is what I told my husband long ago and what I believe.
If you come home and the house is a total mess I want you to say, "Thank you for playing with our kids and taking care of them so well all day. That is what is MOST important." For those days you come home and everything is in order say, "I am sorry you had to ignore our kids today and take care of the house"
It really made me think all night long. I think that is how I need to look at it. If I get stuff done, fantastic but it can not be my main goal these days. Because I have three little boys who are amazing and deserve better from me. So I had to share but I am off the computer so I can go play some Mario Party 8 with my kids.

Me vs Jesus

One of my children out of the blue one day announced the following: "I don't like Jesus, Jesus is mean" After picking my jaw up off the floor we had a long talk about how nice Jesus actually is. Apparently he is on the BFF bandwagon with him now according to our latest conversations.
I was making lunch the other day and started to put chips on his plate. The same chips HE always eats. ALWAYS. He snarled his chip preference to me and I said, "hello I made you 4 years ago, I make your lunch daily and buy the groceries I think I know which chips you all want."
His reply "you didn't make me Jesus did." I had no comment. I just grabbed another Diet Pepsi out of the fridge and cracked open what I refer to as "mommy juice".
Today one of the drawers was stuck on their dresser and I was attempting to unstick it. He told me, "You have to pull and then push that lock thing down mom" And being the ever patient non-sarcastic mom that I am I replied with, "I know I made this dresser." And he the witty little boy he is replied with, "No you didn't. Jesus makes everything so he made it."
And I replied with: "Jesus made trees. Someone cut down the trees to make wood. Someone took wood and said, hey lets cut these boards up to make a dresser, they cut the pieces and put them all in a box. I went to the store and bought the box which Dad carried into our living room & we proceeded to put together said dresser. So I guess it was a group effort. Jesus, Dad AND Mom." Then I had to get more mommy juice.

It's Not Like She Made It....

Yesterday the hubs came home with the flu & I had a two hour pain session at the dentist so when it came time for dinner nobody was feeling it. Except perhaps our three starving children.
I decided I could maybe slurp some soup down & of course had none. So then I decided to go to the commisary.. except it was Monday. So that left the shopette... for you non military types it would be like going to a 7-Eleven to grocery shop.. but smaller.
There I found a microwavable Campbells Chunky Chicken Soup.. for $3. It was not large. I bought two because the kids had decided they also wanted soup. Looking back I should have known that was crap but I was drugged at the time (remember dentist appointment from earlier - I reqeuested extra pain meds at onset of appointment) Came home, heated the soup up, made sandwiches and peeled a banana, put it on plates in front of them. It took much coaxing to get Dylan to even attempt the soup "what are these green things?" "what is the white stuff that isn't noodles?" (Say this in an extremely whiny voice when reading for full effect)
15 minutes later he announces, "Who made this yummy dinner?" And I lit up because yes he was excited about dinner and even GASP eating it. Then chimes in child number one, "It's not like she made it." Excuse me but what did you just have the nerve to utter?
Now that Benjamin is almost two I have more time on my hands and energy for meal planning and I have been trying all kinds of recipes and cooking all kinds of great meals none of which they appreciate whatsoever. So after the day I had had, I thought they were lucky for microwave soup and a banana. Apparently not everyone felt this way.

And the Holidays are Over....

Well the holidays are over and I can honestly say while I enjoyed them I am glad it is done. I just had trouble getting into the full spirit this year of things. I kept thinking we are moving... I don't need more to pack up or go through... lets not buy any presents. But of course I wanted presents so that wasn't going to work...
And then there was the tree. We starting decorating it at 9pm on a Sunday night before Bill headed off on a trip... about 20 minutes later I was done. We put the kids to bed and I had the best of intentions of finishing it later. It never happened... what did happen was a pathetic tree. I will have to post pics of that tomorrow. I was seriously embarrassed when my friends and family saw it. But then I reminded myself it wasn't about the tree or the presents... none of that is the reason for the season right. As the boys are getting older I look forward to teaching them that it is not about the presents but about his presence.

So as January begins I get ready to start the crazy crazy part of my life to get ready to move overseas. I am overwhelmed at what all there is to be accomplished, I am exited to go and so so so sad to be moving away from dear friends and my family. Looking at castles is going to be amazing though !!

Alright enough rambling I need to get my kids dressed it is 9:30 after all.
